Sail Specs & Prices

2005 was a great year for 505 sailing and a terrific launch for Glaser Sails. Thanks to everyone who has supported us and helped us develop the best 505 sails ever!

2005 World Championships, Germany. The 2005 Worlds was an awesome event with 170 505s lining up in one massive gate start. Jay was in Warnemunde coaching Hasso Plattner/Peter Alarie as well as supporting Wolfgang Hunger/Holger Jess and Mike Martin/Jesse Falsone. He was able to get a first hand look at the trends and techniques used world wide. The happiest trend is the shift to the Glaser spinnaker. With input from the Team Tuesday sailors as well as Hunger/Jess, we have modified the shape to make it easier to fly and more powerful. The result is fast and the spinnaker was used by the top two finishers as well as by teams that finished 6, 7, 8 and 9.

Mike Martin/Jesse Falsone, using a complete inventory of Glaser Sails, had a difficult regatta early on in the light and medium air but showed incredible toughness in clawing back into contention helped by a 1, 3, on the penultimate day. On the final day, they were the only team with a chance to beat Wolfgang and Holger and the excitement was heightened since Wolfgang and Holger were the rabbit and would be forced to sail to the right for at least 5 minutes. In the end, Mike and Jesse could not quite bridge the gap. Wolfgang and Holger were able to finish above the 11th place that they needed so they won the Worlds by 5 points. Mike and Jessewere second overall. The new 505 team of Ivy/Illedge (Team Pegasus) started very strong but the last windy races took their toll on the light team and they ended 8th with fellow USA sailors Hamlin/Lewis in 9th. Like the 505 NA's, Glaser Sails were at the top of the fleet and were used by 6 of the top 10 teams.

We continually try out new ideas and make incremental design changes with the help of Howard Hamlin, Mike Martin, and other members of Long Beach's Team Tuesday. Jay is on the water every week during the sailing season coaching and working on 505 sails and sailing techniques. His schedule includes a minimum of one day a week on the water as well as coaching at the Worlds in England. Plans for 2006 include further testing of spinnaker cloth as well as some possible jib design refinements.

2005 North Americans in Kingston, Ontario. Tyler Moore and Jeff
Nelson won the closely-fought championship with a last race 2nd giving them the win over Holt/Smit. Tyler and Jeff used a Glaser main, jib, and spinnaker. Glaser Sails were at the front of the fleet with five out of the top ten using Glaser Sails only three months after the loft opened! Shelton and Kevin Taugher/Chuck Tripp all used a Technora main and Technora jib. Howie/Peter; Mike/Jeff, Andy/Benny, Carol/Carl, Bruce/Dave and Kevin/Chuck all used the "Big Runner Spinnaker."

New Products. Our newest addition is a .5 oz spinnaker that is great in lighter winds and non-wire running conditions. We also now sell Holmenkol SealNGlide which is a coating that you can apply to the spinnaker which makes it easier (slicker) to launch and retrieve and also extends cloth life.
